Davy Crockett - WWII Liberty Ship

All activities involving the destruction and removal of the Davy Crockett were designed to minimize environmental impacts. The impermeable oil and silt barrier inside the metal cofferdam along with sorbent oil collection booms prevented tar balls and oil sheen from discharging into the Columbia River downstream of the work site. Reports of a sunken boat with a visible sheen on the water at the Brisbane, CA marina had the spill response division on scene. The salvage plan was created and the vessel was lifted with air bags complimented by multiple pumps to dewater the vessel. (More) |

WA State Department Of Natural Resources - Derelict Vessel Contract
Project Date: 2013 - 2017
DNR's Derelict Vessel Removal Program is a mechanism to address derelict or abandoned vessels in Washington State's waters.
Washingtons DNR program provides funding and expertise to assist public agencies in the removal and disposal of vessels across the state.
Ballard Diving & Salvage is contracted with the state to support emergency derelict vessel retrieval. This state project address' abandoned vessels, including vessels on land, in marinas, and vessels adrift. (More) |

Unified Command completes raising vessel off of West Seattle
Project Date: October, 2011
The U.S. Coast Guard and Wash. Dept. of Ecology, are working with contractor Ballard Diving and Salvage, to re-float the vessel Justin, on Saturday.
A 150 ton crane barge is being used to recover the 73 foot vessel. Lifting will commence at approximately 5 p.m. The Justin will be lifted completely from the water. It will remain suspended, allowing water to drain, and placed on a barge that will arrive at approximately 6 p.m. (More) |

Liberty Ships
Project Date: August, 2010
Two 450’ Liberty Ships were touted by media as a ‘first-of-its-kind’ salvage operation as BDS brought the aged vessels to their final resting place.
In three months BDS crews cleared the vessels of environmental hazards (hardened bunker oil was a major issue; NRC was a strategic partner in removing this), and cut them into sections that were taken to the Schnitzer Steel metal recycling facility. (More) |

Dredge-Vessel Recovery

USCG Helicopter Recovery

Divers swept and scoured the bottom performing search patterns in an effort to recover even the smallest pieces of wreckage.
BDS not only performed the salvage, however also performed lightering of fuel, transportation and logistics of the aircraft pieces to storage for investigation purposes by the government. (More) |

Seattle Marina Fire
Project Date: 2002
Ballard Diving & Salvage was contracted to recover and properly dispose of over a dozen severely fire-damaged yachts. This included the vessel of interest, which was carefully raised on a custom frame to preserve any evidence. Boats were salvaged and disposed of in accordance with all regulatory agencies. (More) |
